Welcome to the first news update from AVPN since the launch of our Member Directory with now 110 Founder Members from 18 countries. Our “AVPNews” updates will be published quarterly to bring our members, active VP supporters and followers up to date with developments in VP and social investment in Asia. We include news from AVPN and news about our members. AVPNews complements more regular news postings on the AVPN website and other channels. The format of the AVPNews is a mix of feature articles, short news items and links to forthcoming events. This first edition is a short introductory version. Future editions, when we have more resources and an active news gathering network, will be longer. In this issue, we profile philanthropy adviser Lowell Weiss, who is running workshops for AVPN on the ‘Art and Science of Effective Philanthropy’ in July (23rd in Singapore, 25th in Hong Kong and 27th in Tokyo). You can read about the World Bank’s review of 10 years of Development Marketplace and the newly-launched investment platform to which it has given rise. We also provide an overview of the leading supporters of VP in Asia who make up the 110 founder members of AVPN.Save the date for the AVPN Road Show 2012 in October (15th in Mumbai, 17th in Singapore, 19th in Hong Kong and 22nd in Tokyo) when we will have a series of private roundtables, open seminars and networking featuring Ruth Jones, the CEO of Social Venture Partners International from the USA and Shaks Ghosh, the CEO of the Private Equity Foundation from the UK.Also save the date now for 9 and 10 May next year when AVPN will hold its first annual conference in Singapore bringing together the diverse sectors that comprise the venture philanthropy and social investment eco-system in Asia.We want to encourage feedback from our readers and ask you to provide content ideas for the next AVPNews. Many thanks to our major grant supporters, general sponsors and founder members for making the launch of AVPN a success. We have taken a small step and look forward to the journey of growing a vibrant and high-impact venture philanthropy community across Asia.Simon ChadwickSimon Chadwick, CEO Simon-Chadwick-112x1302
