Friday sessions are a series of monthly casual get together meetings with our community and friends, whereby we choose a topic of interest, and have some key speakers kick start the conversation.
We had our first session in October and gathered a group of more than ten people from various different organizations including, impact investors, network organizations, the Ministry for Social and Family development, and philanthropy practitioners.
The first session started with a sharing on AVPN Knowledge Centre’s Capacity Development Model for the social investing community and received constructive input and comments from the participants. Participants also shared some of their topics of interest as well as some of their collaboration expectations for the network.
For example, World Vision International would like to leverage the network and come up with an agreement with other members to be better prepared for emergency relief in the region. Nexus Carbon for Development is expanding their work to Africa and would like to learn more about the deal flow process there.
The group also agreed on the importance of transparency within the social sector organisations, both from the beneficiary end and also the funder side.
Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG), a knowledge brokerage firm with a network of subject matter experts, shared their company’s involvement in social impact. GLG has been finding and connecting highly skilled experts into development projects and convincing them of doing pro bono work.
Please join us in our upcoming Friday sessions, which we will publish on our events page.
