Many practitioners in the social sector struggle with impact measurement and it often throws up more questions than answers. In an attempt to address some of the questions frequently raised with respect to the measurement of impact, AVPN, in partnership with B Lab, a US-based non-profit organisation, is organising a webinar on the topic on 26 September.
The webinar will focus on the performance standards that B Lab has developed for companies and tools such as the ‘improve your impact’ resources that are freely accessible through the company’s portal.
Flory Wilson, international director of B Analytics and the Global Impact Investment Rating System (GIIRS), says the webinar will “highlight some functionality and broad industry data available through B Analytics”. It will provide an opportunity to learn more about an impact measurement solution called B Analytics, which can be used to do custom impact data collection or a standard impact evaluation called the B Impact Assessment. She adds that this should be a valuable discussion for all those interested in industry data and in thinking about impact measurement.
Flory says that since launching two years ago, the company has used its performance standards to rate companies and funds in more than 40 countries. This includes 45 company ratings in nine South and Southeast Asian countries and 10 investment funds that invest in the region as well. She adds that while GIIRS was initially mainly used by fund managers and investors to understand and track their portfolio’s impact data, now there are investors who have integrated the B Impact assessment into their due diligence process with prospective investments and are generating their annual LP reporting or impact reports by pulling data out of B Analytics.
B Analytics is the largest database of impact data on privately held companies and funds globally, and the GIIRS is a social and environmental rating system for companies and funds. Participants in the webinar can also test out the B Impact Assessment by creating their own organization profile prior to the webinar. The session will then allow the participants to clarify questions that stem from their experience in using the system.
