nye greeting

Dear AVPN members and supporters,

It has been a whirlwind few months since I took over as CEO at AVPN but also a great privilege to be working with such inspiring members and partners. Our road show in October on Mobilising Human Capital was an eye-opener, giving me the chance to meet with many of you in Mumbai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo. The topic proved to be both timely and extremely engaging with a number of countries wanting to replicate the successful Pilotlight model.

The EVPA conference in Geneva allowed me to visit some of our members in Europe as well as get a sense of how responsible leadership can inspire the philanthropy sector. As I continue to meet with more people passionate in philanthropy across Asia, I get more encouraged each day with the work that we do to bring them together on one platform.

We start 2014 with great enthusiasm, proud of the successes from the year before, and also excited about the activities that we will be rolling out this year. Since crossing our 120th member, we have tried to take more time to sit with our members to discuss what their needs are and how we can best address them. Thus, we have been reviewing our strategy and continuing to think about the best ways to help our members achieve their philanthropic goals.

To this end, we welcome all of you to engage with us in this discussion. Getting feedback from our members is crucial to help us tailor our programmes to better meet your needs. The country webinar series has been one such idea that has come out of conversations with our members, and the webinars have been extremely well received. Going forward, we plan to have site visits, bespoke roundtable meetings, in-country discussions, and make many more connections for our members. Our banner event, the AVPN Conference 2014, will be happening in Singapore on 14 and 15 May this year. Registration is open for members now! Do remember to register early as last year’s conference was sold out two months prior to the event.

In other exciting news, joining us fresh from Scotland is our new Executive Vice Chairman, Andrew Muirhead. I hope many of you will have the opportunity to meet and speak with him in the future. His venture philanthropy experience from Inspiring Scotland will be extremely helpful in building and catalysing more VP funds in Asia. With new and invigorated leadership team, I encourage more of you to approach us to tap into our network or even simply to tell us your concerns in moving forward with venture philanthropy!

Happy New Year and all the best wishes ahead!
