Building on the success of our inaugural conference, AVPN’s 2014 Annual Conference on 14 and 15 May embarks on a journey to address the 3 fundamental pillars of venture philanthropy: Financial, Human and Intellectual Capital. Once again, we are expecting a stellar turn-out of speakers and experts, at the Singapore Management University, partnering with the Lien Centre for Social Innovation. The last conference was sold out 2 months before the event so we encourage all members to register for your tickets early in order to secure your seats!
Our exciting line-up of speakers include:
Sandiaga Uno, Founder of Indonesian Social Entrepreneur Association, will speak about his own journey of philanthropy, which borrows lessons learnt from his successful investment career. Also joining him is Amit Chandra, Managing Director of Bain Capital, who is a strong believer in giving his time and money to social causes and bringing the advantage of his business networks to his philanthropic work. Victoria Hornby, CEO of The Royal Foundation, will share with us her years of experience managing one of the biggest family foundations in the UK, and her current unique position managing the charitable activities for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
Also speaking at the conference: Jonathan Jenkins, CEO of Social Investment Business, the biggest social investor in the UK, and other key members like Shell Foundation, LGT Venture Philanthropy, Charities Aid Foundation, and Family Business Network.
Based on the feedback of our members we have developed more practical conference content to reflect the progress of the industry. The conference sessions also feature more sharing from Asian investors and practitioners as we try to uncover the journey of “Social Investing in Asia: What has worked?” Many who have been involved in the sector find themselves confused as the industry is very new, the AVPN conference tries to address these as we attempt to find the right recipe for Venture Philanthropy and Social Investing in Asia.
New this year are additional sessions that provide practical workshops, legal clinics, facilitated networking and a dedicated Social Enterprise marketplace. The SE marketplace showcases members’ investee organisations along with social businesses who are a part of the AVPN network. The featured organisations will have a chance to pitch to delegates. The progamming options have expanded to ensure that there will be something useful and relevant for everyone.
Once again, we bring together a wide spectrum of stakeholders in the venture philanthropy space: from foundations, family offices, wealth managers, governments, corporates, professional service firms to research institutes, experts and pioneers in this field with a view towards the sharing of best practices and an understanding of the perspectives from the different sectors with a common goal of working towards expanding the field of social investing in Asia.
The conference retains its original capacity of 300 delegates so as to ensure a high quality of delegates and positive exchange of ideas. The AVPN Conference targets only “resource providers”: people and organisations that are critical in the provision of venture philanthropy.
