AVPN and NUS Asia Centre for Social Entrepreneurship & Philanthropy Sasa Vucinic hosted a roundtable on 7th of March 2014 for Sasa Vucinic. With more than 20 years’ experience as both social entrepreneur and social investor, Sasa Vucinic, Co-Founder of the Media Development Loan Fund, raised discussion about the struggles faced by early stage high potential social entrepreneurs and how social investors and the government can effectively partner with these individuals to address some of their critical needs.
He opened with three main points for discussion. He first touched on financing– he pointed out that there needs to be more investments in individual social enterprises and the ecosystem built around these enterprises. His second statement concerned investors’ performance demand, as he felt that there is a dangerous trend that investors’ demands and expectations are getting higher and there would be a point when the social ventures would not be able to sustain a continually high annualized return. Thirdly, Sasa challenged the audience to create the best social entrepreneurship environment, whether it be tax subsidies or lawyer service discounts.
It was an invite-only event and the audience was comprised of a variety of personnel from foundations, venture philanthropy organizations, government related entities, academia, non-governmental entities, media and social intermediaries.
