AVPN attended the 3rd China Foundation Annual Conference in Kunming, China on 29th and 30th August 2013. It was encouraging for the global foundation industry to note that, a year on from the launch of the Foundation Transparency Index, the system had not lost any momentum but engagement with local foundations continued to increase. Jeff Falkenstein, VP of Data Architecture for US Foundation Center, remarked that China had managed to gain more progress in transparency and accountability in the past 2 years than the US had achieved in the last 15 years.Even observers from Singapore, Stanley Tan, Chairman of National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, and representative from the Charities Unit of Ministry of Community, Culture & Youth, were impressed by the system and the results that China Foundation Center (CFC) had achieved. Xu Yongguang, Chairman of China Foundation Center, stepped down from his role during the elections that were held right after the conference. As hard as it will be to fit into these big shoes, He Daofeng, Senior Vice President of China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, and the country’s pioneer on micro-financing, assumed the position. He carries with him not only years of experience in the social and commercial sector, but is also well respected within the academic and economic spheres.CFC continues in its remarkable work in developing the social sector in China and linking the country with its global counterparts.
