Beneath the unprecedented prosperity in Asia lies unsettling complex issues that continue to shape the landscape of our region. We need multi-faceted, impactful solutions to these issues. AVPN members embody this spirit of innovation in their philanthropy – and we are pleased to partner with Singapore’s National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre in the upcoming Philanthropy In Asia Summit 2014. First convened in 2012, PIA is a bi-annual event co-organised by the Global Philanthropy Forum (USA), and the Community Foundation of Singapore. This year, the Summit will happen on 20-21 October 2014 in Singapore – aptly locating it in the Old Parliament House, where a young nation was born. This invitation-only event has an exciting programme that will convene leading philanthropy representatives from private, public and policy spheres. Over 2 days, Asia-based funders are challenged to think how their philanthropy can be collaborative, transparent and innovative; they can dive deeper into the role they play in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, fighting Human Trafficking, Pollution, an Ageing Population, and a globalised diaspora community. This year’s regional and global speaker highlights include Dr Tahir from the Mayapada Group, a Giving Pledge Signor and a Forbes’ Hero of Philanthropy; experts from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; virtual engagement experts from Twitter (Asia Pacific) and social innovation from Microsoft (Asia Pacific); transparency experts from the China Foundation Centre and next-generation perspective from Nexus Asia. Partners like Singapore’s Committee for UNWomen will bring fresh perspective to old problems, while the Committee that Encourages Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) will bring their global corporate giving benchmark survey to Asia for the first time. Other notable philanthropists speaking include Fernando Zobel de Ayala, Veronica Colondam, and Audette Exel. Stay tuned for more exciting speakers. With only a limited number of seats per organisation, register now with your interest to ensure you receive an invitation! AVPN members will receive a significant discount of 50% on the registration fee (S$425 value)!
