One of Asia’s most influential conferences on social investment and venture philanthropy is coming, for the first time, to Hong Kong, on May 24-25.
The AVPN Conference 2016 will bring together leading impact investors and policy leaders with representatives from the corporate, foundation and academic sectors from Asia, North America and Europe to examine how to tackle some of our most pressing social and environmental problems and deliver sustainable and inclusive growth that benefits all.
The opening plenary will explore the role of social innovation in addressing the challenge of sustainable livelihoods and in creating and enacting new ideas to address social issues. It will consider the risks of innovation for its own sake and pose the question, “when might slower, careful, incremental approaches be more adequate?”
Another plenary will focus on capacity building. Drawing on its speakers’ many decades of collective experience, it will consider the most successful approaches in improving the effectiveness of social purpose organizations to deliver on social outcomes.
One breakout session will explore why many foundations are diversifying their approachesand employing social investment alongside traditional grant-making to create interventions thataddress systemic failures and whole sectors, rather than individual organisations or projects.
A session on Myanmar, will consider how multi-sector collaboration between business, civil society and government can support the country’s move towards a more democratic, inclusive and prosperous future.
Other topics will include:
- Policy support for social enterprise in Asia
- Climate finance
- Impact assessment
- Leadership in social enterprises
- Philanthropy’s Role in Achieving the SDGs
- How to involve the next generation in social impact investment
Among the 100 confirmed speakers are Hong Kong’s Financial Secretary John C Tsang, Senator Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV of The Philippines and AVPN Chairman Douglas L. Miller, along with senior figures from organizations such as Big Society Capital, Ford Foundation, Omidyar Network, Social Value International and the British Council.
