In early September, AVPN was in Taipei to further understand the social enterprise sector and the philanthropy landscape in Taiwan. AVPN met with various government agencies promoting the social enterprise space including the workforce development agency and the ministry of economic affairs. We also conducted a series of workshops on venture philanthropy.

We held a workshop on “What is venture philanthropy and how to get started?” during the inaugural Strategic CSR Conference organized by our member the Foundation for Talented Youth in collaboration with the Global Shapers Taiwan chapter.

We held another workshop for a group of 15-20 organizations at the newly opened SE Hub in Taipei on venture philanthropy trends in the Asian region. The workshop was facilitated by our member B-Current Impact Investment, the first impact investment fund in Taiwan. Participants came from various different sectors and walks of life: impact investors, incubators, entrepreneurs, corporates, financial sector and academia. This workshop became the first group gathering of participants interested in the venture philanthropy space.

AVPN hopes to be able to catalyse the venture philanthropy movement in Taiwan. Our next trip to Taiwan will be in early December and we will be conducting a series of workshops on capacity building.
