What

What is the Fellowship about?

The Fellowship will select 30 individuals in Asia and 30 individuals in Africa who embody the values and skills needed to develop a strong impact investing sector. It will then work with these Fellows to build their capacity to ensure that they have the right information and resources, knowledge and insight on how to build an impact strategy, manage a portfolio, define, evaluate and manage impact, among other skills.

Why

Why is it necessary?

Impact investing is at its nascent stage in Asia and Africa. Although it is now getting an increasing level of attention from various actors in the social investment ecosystem, there are only a handful of impact funds and foundations that are actually practicing impact investing. The obstacles that are hindering impact investing from gaining traction in Asia and Africa amongst wealth holders, asset managers and their advisors include the perception that it will necessitate a trade-off on financial returns, a lack of an investment-ready pipeline, inexperience in managing a portfolio, and the complexities in defining and evaluating impact measurement.

Who

Who should apply?

The Fellows will consist of Private Equity and Venture Capital Fund managers, Foundation Directors, Family Office Princicaps/Directors, NextGen Leaders, Incubators and Accelerators; those who have access to significant capital, or have responsibility for large investment portfolios and are used to managing assets of high networth individuals, families or funds. These individuals are either deploying or intend to deploy capital with an impact investing lens.

The Fellowship costs USD 975 for Fellows based in Asia and USD 1275 for Fellows based in Africa respectively to be paid in full upon acceptance. Africa Fellows will receive an additional 6 months of engagement following the fellowship graduation which accounts for the higher cost.

The cost will give Fellows from Asia full access to highly-curated course materials, connections to leading practitioners, closed-door learning sessions, and access to the AVPN Conference 2022 – the largest social investing convening in Asia – to be held on 21 – 24 June 2022 in Bali, Indonesia. This cost does not include air tickets, hotel accommodations, local transportation, or other personal expenses incurred in Kenya, Singapore or Indonesia.

The Fellows based in Africa will receive a discount for AVPN Conference 2022 tickets.

Participants from an AVPN Member organization are entitled to a discounted price of USD 550 per person.

Upon successful completion of the Fellowship, Fellows will receive a certificate of completion jointly from AVPN and AVPA.

To make the most of your impact investing learning journey, we strongly encourage all Fellows to commit to the full Fellowship. Please save the dates, set aside sufficient time to attend the tutorials and discussions, and complete the required readings and assignments.

Failure to do so may result in an incompletion of the Fellowship and disqualify you from receiving the certification.

Cancellation of the registration 30 days prior to the start of the Fellowship (September 1, 2021) is entitled to a full refund. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made less than 30 days prior to the start of the Fellowship or after the Fellowship is started.
