About the course

The AI training project will deliver accessible and culturally responsive learning for refugee and migrant communities and organisations across Aotearoa New Zealand. NFACT will train trustees, staff, youth and community members from refugee and migrant organisations. The programme will introduce key AI concepts, ethics, and practical applications through bilingual workshops, online resources, and hands-on activities. Training will focus on understanding how AI affects everyday life, employment and education, recognising bias and ethical issues, enhance digital safety, and exploring how AI tools can support service delivery, governance, and productivity.

Module Structure

  • Digital Foundation & Local Context

    This module will cover digital access, online safety, and cultural context in New Zealand.

  • AI Basics & NZ Relevance

    This module will discuss what AI is, its types, and its impact on the New Zealand job market.

  • AI for Workplace Productivity

    This module will teach you how to use different AI tools and master them to improve specific tasks.

  • AI & Cultural Safety

    This module will discuss the ins and outs of bias, ethics, and safety to use AI responsibly.

  • Future-Proofing & Job Action

    This module will focus on continuous learning and job-seeking action for future opportunities in AI.

About the Training Provider

New Settlers Family and Community Trust (NFACT) provides flexible, culturally and linguistically appropriate services for refugees and people from refugee-like backgrounds, such as asylum-seekers, convention refugees, and people under the family reunification category.

Additional Support Offered

Coaching, mentoring, group Q&A sessions, referral pathways to employments, one-on-one support, ongoing access to resources and training materials.
