The objective of this study is to develop an understanding of the status of the impact investing markets in six countries in South Asia—Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. This research is intended to serve as a critical input for future investments and engagement to build and grow these markets. The key themes explored include the current status and trends in terms of the types of active investors, capital deployment, opportunities for and challenges to investing, the demand for impact capital, challenges to accessing capital and opportunities for enterprise growth, and the vibrancy and scale of the supportive ecosystem for the industry. This report will be useful for policymakers in India and elsewhere to learn about the key players and their effect on the impact investing space – which will provide insights on how and who to collaborate with on social policies.
