About

Barbara is an internationally recognized executive who has successfully led small start-up companies and large international organizations. She is currently Chief Executive Officer in Myanmar, for the Partnership for Change (PfC) Foundation. As the Myanmar leader for the PfC Social Innovation Fund, Barbara works closely with community leaders to identify, plan and implement programs and development models that improve economic opportunities, and that can be replicated or scaled up, increasing benefit and community skills. She is an advocate inside Myanmar and internationally on the economic and social benefits of sustainable tourism. Prior to this position, Barbara was a Princeton in Asia Senior Fellow, working in Myanmar and Thailand on projects supporting opportunities for Myanmar refugees. She has also started two boutique businesses: GlobalSight Partners, an international management consulting organization, and Silk and Stones Travel, a boutique travel company specializing in custom designed trips to Southeast Asia. Barbara also developed and led the innovative ABLE Center for Women Entrepreneurs at the University of Denver. During her career she held executive positions at Sun Microsystems, StorageTek, US West, Raynet, and Bell Laboratories. Her academic credentials include a B.S. and M.S. in Physics, and the Stanford Summer Executive Program. Barbara now uses her business experience to support local community leaders making economic and social change to Myanmar. Her responsibilities include planning and implementation of education, entrepreneurship, and social enterprise programs. She has been a speaker and panel moderator at three Asia Pacific Economic Coalition Women’s Leadership Networks. She was an invited speaker at the 2007 WWC Conference in Seoul, Korea. In 2005, Barbara was inducted into the International Women In Technology International Hall of Fame. In 2007 she was awarded the Colorado Software Industry Association’s Technology Supporter of the Year. She has served on Executive Advisory Boards for the University of Colorado at Boulder College of Engineering, the College of Arts and Science at St. Louis University, and The Women’s College at the University of Denver. Barbara is on the Board of Directors for Teachers Across Borders (TAB), the Colorado Coalition for Girls in IT (CCGIT), and the Advisory Board of TACtile, a textile and fiber arts gallery in Colorado, She was a member of the University of Denver Strategic Issues Panel on Immigration in 2009, She is a Charter Member of TiE Rockies, the organization supporting entrepreneurs in the Rocky Mountain region.
