About

Dr. Bhupendra Tripathi is a Public Health expert working with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, based at their India Country Office. He is the Country Lead for the ‘Elimination Programs’ targeting Neglected Tropical Diseases. He is closely engaged with the Govt. of India for the elimination of ‘Lymphatic Filariasis’ and ‘Visceral Leishmaniasis/Kala Azar’ diseases from the country. He played a significant role for the introduction of ‘Triple Drug Therapy’ during the LF Mass Drug Administration campaigns in India. With the renewed strategy, India aims to achieve its LF elimination target by 2021. Kala Azar is targeted to be eliminated by 2020. Before taking on this responsibility, Bhupendra lead the Coverage and Equity portfolio for ‘Routine Immunization’ in the Gates Foundation. He managed the Immunization Technical Support Unit (ITSU) and supported the recent initiatives of the Prime Minister of India on Immunization - ‘Mission Indradhanush, Intensive MI, GSA, eGSA’. He worked closely with the National/State Governments and Gavi-HSS/other partners (WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, JSI, PATH, GHS) for strengthening immunization coverage and equity across the country. He is a member of ‘Global Urban Immunization Working Group’ supporting better immunization coverage in urban/peri-urban/slum areas. He played a key role in strengthening AEFI Surveillance System and developed real-time data visibility for the country. He was the Founder National Chairperson for the ‘Alliance for Immunization’ in India.
