Helen Y. CHEN joined HKUST as Head of Communications & External Affairs for the School of Business and Management (HKUST Business School) in May 2019.

As a member of the senior management of the School, Helen takes a leading role in formulating strategies in strengthening the School’s presence and connectivity externally to position for its next stage of growth in the Greater Bay Area and the world.

Prior to her current position, Helen was the Head of Strategic Development at Asia Society Hong Kong Center, responsible for external partnerships, fundraising, and the overall strategy of the organization. She previously worked for over 18 years in the financial industry, including for The Mitsubishi Trust and Banking Corporation in Japan, and UBS in Hong Kong, PRC, and Japan. She also served in the field of higher education, including as Director of Placement at Hitotsubashi University ICS in Japan and Consultant at HKUST Business School for MBA Career Services.

Helen obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Columbia University in New York. She speaks fluent Chinese (Cantonese, Putonghua and the Shanghai dialect) and Japanese. Her community engagements include President (2012 to 2014) and Senior Advisor (2015 to present) of the Columbia University Alumni Association Hong Kong; Honorary Correspondence Secretary (2016 to 2018) and First Vice President (2018 to present) of Zonta Club of Victoria; and Director of the Young Entrepreneur Development Council (2011 to present).
