Max is a board member of Social Venture Partners International (Seattle) and of Mission Capital (Austin). He is also past chairman of Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center, a 75-acre preserve near Austin that offers outdoor educational programming for schools and families   Max is a former board member of Bamberger Ranch, a 5,500-acre preserve in central Texas. 

Max is the founder and chairman of PierceGray, an executive search firm specializing in leadership roles for global private equity firms. Prior to PierceGray, he founded XG2, a provider of advisory, benchmarking and executive roundtable services.

A graduate of Stanford University, Max’s early career involved working on international trade issues with the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. and at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. He then transitioned into business with McKinsey, a strategy consulting firm. His work with McKinsey was primarily in the firm’s Operations practice and included both domestic and international projects. Later Max became an early-stage executive with FreeMarkets, the global B2B e-commerce company acquired by Ariba/SAP. His business building roles with FreeMarkets included heading up Global Strategic Accounts, Consulting Services, and New Business Lines.
