Mona Byrkit, MPH, is PATH’s Mekong Regional Program Director, based in Hanoi. She oversees PATH’s portfolio of projects in the Greater Mekong Subregion in infectious diseases, reproductive, maternal and child health, nutrition, vaccine development and introduction, and immunization systems. Ms. Byrkit has over 20 years of management and policy experience in domestic and international health and development programs. Prior to joining PATH in 2009, she served as director of CARE’s global sexual and reproductive health portfolio. Before CARE, she was deputy director of PRIME II, a global reproductive health program funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Ms Byrkit served as USAID’s Assistant Population Advisor based in the US Embassy in Turkey in the 1990’s, and began her career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal. Ms. Byrkit received her MPH in maternal and child health from the University of California at Berkeley and her BA from Pomona College. She has worked in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America, and speaks French, Wolof (Senegal), and basic Turkish and Vietnamese.
