Vivien held lead roles in China and Hong Kong funds practice at reputable leading funds law firms in Hong Kong, and thereafter gained substantial in-house experience as Greater China Head of Legal at leading global asset management firm, prior to establishing Vivien Teu & Co LLP in early 2015. During her career, Vivien also carries multi-jurisdictional experience from leading law firms in Singapore and Malaysia, and was based in the Shanghai office of an international law firm, and extensively handling cross-jurisdictional matters.
Vivien’s practice experience has a deep and broad focus in the areas of asset management and diverse forms of investment funds, including Hong Kong SFC authorisation of retail funds (including UCITS funds and domestic HK funds), Mainland-Hong Kong Mutual Recognition of Funds, China-themed Funds, QFII China A Share Funds, RMB Fixed Income Funds, ETF; China QDII matters and offshore investments in securities, funds and structured notes; advising on establishing investment management platforms or securities-related businesses; assisting China financial institutions with SFC licensing applications and providing regulatory advice, Hong Kong securities compliance advice; assisting clients of diverse background with establishing private investment funds including hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, institutional segregated account mandates and other investment arrangements; advising on fund distribution matters, custody structure, investment and trading matters.
Vivien’s diverse experience also includes joint ventures, shareholder agreements, corporate governance, general corporate and commercial advice, trusts and tax structuring. Vivien has been involved in numerous financial institutions and asset management firms’ joint ventures and mergers & acquisitions. Vivien is also experienced in providing legal advice and services to corporates and high net worth individuals on tax and asset-structure planning, establishment of trusts and other arrangements.

Vivien had served as a trainer for the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute, and as contributing author for publications such as International Comparative Legal Guides, Ignites Asia, IFLR (Euromoney), Getting the Deal Through and Chambers Guide.
Vivien has been recognised as the Asialaw Leading Lawyer 2018 for the practice areas of investment funds, corporate and mergers & acquisitions, and Asialaw Leading Lawyers Notable Practitioner 2020 for investment funds.
Vivien is qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong (2006), Malaysia (2003), England & Wales (2000) and Singapore (1998), and has bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese).
