Executive Director, Gender Platform

AVPN’s mission is to catalyse the movement toward a more strategic, collaborative, and outcome-focused approach to social investing, ensuring that resources are deployed as effectively as possible to address key social challenges facing Asia today and in the future.

AVPN’s social investor community benefits from thematic platforms including, health, climate, gender and youth livelihoods that provide opportunities for members to come together to learn and collaborate in efforts to mobilise capital to specific impact areas. The Gender Equality Platform was launched in 2019 and provides an opportunity for the social investment community to come together to drive action towards gender equality in Asia. The Executive Director, Gender Equality Platform is an exciting new leadership role for a Gender Specialist at AVPN and will be responsible for AVPN’s thought leadership, strategic direction and execution of all programming for the Gender Equality Platform as well as leading on gender equality integration across AVPN’s other programming areas and member engagement. AVPN is looking for a recognised thought leader in gender equality across the Asia Pacific region to lead AVPN’s gender equality portfolio at a time of rapid growth.

Formulating and implementing the Gender Equality strategy for the AVPN, which includes both the gender equality project portfolio, and working to develop an integrated strategy to ensure gender is mainstreamed across all of AVPN’s programmes and membership support and engagement
Representing AVPN at key regional and global forums to deliver Asian thought leadership in Gender Equality
Leading the Gender Equality team (currently 3 people) including end to end performance management
Ownership and management of financial plans for the platform, including all aspects of project and grant management and resource planning
Supported by the Partnerships team lead the business development/fundraising strategy for the Gender Equality Platform and be responsible for achieving fundraising targets and identifying new potential funders and partners
Working closely with AVPN’s other prorgamme areas including health and climate to ensure alignment and opportunities to collaborate are capitalised upon
Driving AVPN’s internal gender equality strategy, including developing and implementing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)/ gender policies

Strong track record of driving towards gender equality across Asia
Minimum 15 years relevant professional experience in philanthropy, international development or related field with a minimum of 6-8 years experience in a leadership and people management role
Degree in international development, social sciences, economics, or humanities - evidence of a focus on gender either through academic experience or through other examples of learning, an advanced degree with a strong gender component is desirable
Extensive experience of working in the Asia context
Strong track record of designing and implementing gender equality programmes in Asia,
Strong understanding of the latest trends in social investment and gender equality e.g. in areas including Gender Lens Investing (GLI)
Strong track record of fundraising and evidence of achieving significant funding targets
Experience of developing communications or advocacy strategies for gender equality is desirable
Experience of public speaking and developing thought leadership, analysis and insights, excellent written and oral communication skills with a diverse range of internal and external senior stakeholders
Experience of leading and inspiring a team in a matrix organisation
