Job Description

AVPN is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the implementation of its ‘Accelerating Climate Action in Asia Initiative.  This groundbreaking initiative led by AVPN seeks to unite key stakeholders and provide support to civil society organisations in India and Indonesia, fostering an accelerated and collective effort to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the next two years.


This position will be based in India, and the individual will work with AVPN’s Capital Mobilisation team located throughout Asia. This role will report to the Chief of Capital Mobilisation through the Assistant Director (Funds).  This role has a tenure of two years starting in early 2024.  Continuity beyond this period will be dependent on the incumbent’s performance and on mutual agreement between AVPN and the employee.


  • Oversee the successful delivery of the initiative, ensuring alignment with the outcomes and objectives of the initiative.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress against predetermined milestones, adjusting strategies as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including civil society organisations, government bodies, NGOs, and businesses.
  • Act as a liaison between AVPN and external partners to facilitate collaboration and synergy in climate action efforts.
  • Lead the identification and selection process of well-established civil society organisations in India and Indonesia to form the cohort of grantees.
  • Manage the provision of flexible, multi-year funding to grantees, ensuring effective utilisation and alignment with the initiative's objectives.
  • Oversee the execution of technical assistance programs based on organisational development needs assessments.
  • Collaborate with external experts and consultants to deliver tailored support, enhancing the capacity of grantees to contribute to climate mitigation.
  • Create and facilitate spaces for grantee partners to interact, share insights, and collaborate with the larger ecosystem of actors involved in climate mitigation.
  • Support Partnerships team in sourcing additional fundraising for the program. This would include- assisting in crafting concept notes, identifying potential leads, and initiating initial fundraising discussions to bolster support for the program.
  • Organise events, workshops, and forums to encourage cross-fertilisation of ideas and accelerate collective action.
  • Stay abreast of global, regional, and local trends in climate mitigation, environmental sustainability, and related fields.
  • Conduct regular analyses of emerging technologies, policies, and best practices to inform and enhance the ACAII initiative.


  • 6-10 years of proven experience in the climate sector in India.
  • Technical knowledge of climate mitigation strategies, policies, and practices.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully delivering climate-related initiatives.
  • In-depth understanding of climate change policy in India and Indonesia.
  • Academic background in climate mitigation, environmental science, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Commitment to staying updated on key trends, innovations, and best practices in climate mitigation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing multiple projects within a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent data analysis and synthesis skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with a diverse group of stakeholders; a cultural understanding, and sensitivity towards working in South and Southeast Asia is mandatory.
  • Technologically savvy; experience with Salesforce and Microsoft Office products is preferred
