Rural villages in Indonesia typically lack economic opportunities relative to large cities such as Jakarta, and are not as attractive as tourist destinations compared to established locations such as Bali.
However, rural villages have their own unique people, cultures and charm, and such experiences are not easily available elsewhere. By capitalising on sustainable village-based tourism, guests can experience unique, immersive experiences of village life and culture, and local communities can simultaneously benefit through income generated from economic activity.
At Koperasi Desa Wisata Candirejo, we are providing such tour packages to travelers and empowering local communities.
Candijero Village is located near a prime tourist destination, Borobudur Temple, which is the world's largest Buddhist temple.
Leveraging our village's strategic location, we have strengthened Candijero Village into a whole-of-community tourism experience to immerse guests into local culture and wisdom. In collaboration with local partners and communities such as Guides, Caterers and Accommodation Providers, we are able to provide a wide range of activities for our guests. Some our offerings include Dokar Village Tour, and Cooking Lessons using traditional equipment.
Through our activities, we are able to generate social impact in 2 ways:
- Economic Empowerment of local communities and partners
- Conservation of our Village Arts, Culture and Nature areas
