Millions of children around the globe lack access to education and to quality education. UNESCO estimates that over 250 million children around the world are growing up without knowing how to read and write effectively. This is in addition to the 57 million children who have no access to primary schooling of any kind. We need to give more children access to quality learning opportunities, and quickly.
Technological innovations need to and can help address this problem at scale. Enuma is developing a tablet-based learning solution, Kitkit School, that children can use independently to learn how to read, write and count. The tablet-based game allows for anytime and anywhere learning that suits children’s different needs and contexts. The early elementary curriculum provides children with the building blocks to numeracy and literacy, and is currently available in English and Swahili, with potential for global usage.
