Problem

The pervasive exploitation of animals in various domains poses a multifaceted problem that IAF endeavours to address. Animals endure immense suffering across industries, from factory farming and labour to scientific testing and entertainment. The magnitude is staggering, affecting not only animals but also posing significant threats to human health and the environment. The lack of awareness compounds the issue, with consumers often oblivious to the cruelty behind animal-derived products.

Beyond individual suffering, the environmental impact of animal agriculture remains underestimated, contributing substantially to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and resource depletion. There is a direct link between wet markets and pandemics, and the next global health crisis is antimicrobial resistance. IAF’s strategic pillars include promoting a plant-based ecosystem, advocating for alternatives to animal testing, driving law and policy reforms, and fostering outreach and capacity building.

Solution

IAF’s strategic pillars include promoting a plant-based ecosystem, advocating for alternatives to animal testing, driving law and policy reforms, and fostering outreach and capacity building. Through initiatives like the Plant-Based Foods Industry Association and collaborations with organizations like Humane Society International and PFA Uttarakhand, IAF actively works to reduce animal suffering.

The organization has deployed over INR 21 crore in the last three years, impacting hundreds of thousands of animals and developing over 30 leaders for the movement. By addressing issues such as trauma care for street animals, fish welfare, and policy reforms, IAF’s interventions encompass both immediate relief and long-term, systemic change. The success stories include bans on cruel practices, creation of model districts, and educational programs reaching lakhs of children. IAF’s impact extends beyond monetary contributions, creating a network of donors and and meaningful policy changes.
