The Myanmar Water Sector eco-system is complex as there are more than 9 river basins going through different regions, 12 departments are responsible for water and over 100 international partners are active in Myanmar. More and more implementation of projects is delayed due to lack of coordination, lack of shared information and lack of accountability. People are also not aware or engaged on the importance of water. In the past, Myanmar's access to information was also limited due to no access to mobile phones and Internet; this has changed rapidly.
In May 2017, The Water Agency started developing the Myanmar Water Portal, an online gateway for local and international professionals to read the latest news, project and stakeholder information about the Myanmar water sector eco-system. Connectedness is the defining success factor for the global water sector. Connectedness enables sharing of knowledge, commitment, learning, innovation, collaboration, transparency, accountability, etc. The Myanmar water sector has a unique opportunity to leapfrog by embracing digital technology as a key enabler and accelerator for progress. The Myanmar Water Portal aims to be an independent digital gateway that connects local and international water professionals and enables them to discover, share, learn and collaborate.
We see social investment as a continuum that encompasses everything from philanthropy and venture philanthropy to impact investing, CSR and sustainable investment. We call this the “Continuum of Capital”.
