Character education is an approach to education that incorporates values, ethics, emotional maturity and a sense of civics. While modern education has mostly focused on developing students’ academic strength rather than building their character, research has found that students’ empathy level has fallen, and 1 in 5 students have signs of egocentrism.  This shows that character education is essential. In addition, to those who live in big cities, we often come across so-called “first world problems”, but we rarely truly see or understand real-world social problems happening in all corners of the world. There is a lack of public education and attention on the stories and social issues that matter. We have identified two major issues, which we are now trying to solve. Firstly, there is limited character education materials or opportunities outside of the school curriculum. Secondly, in this digital age, the majority of character education materials is offline rather than digital.

To address these two issues, our solution is an app that offers digital storybooks with the aim of building the character. In the era in which children start using tablets from a young age, our solution utilises the digital platform, making character education affordable and accessible anytime, anywhere. Our stories are based on real-life characters, rather than animal or cartoon characters. The stories are inspirational stories that are enriching, such as Malala’s fight for girls’ education, or stories that highlight important causes such as the refugee crisis and climate change. Our books strive to enrich knowledge and empathy, but also shape the character, and subsequently, the world. After the stories, we will give mini tasks to children readers to test their learning. We also encourage the adult reader to donate to the relevant charity partner.
