Problem

Often, cities in developing countries do not have a functioning public transportation system. As a result, individuals are dependent on private vehicles to meet their transportation needs. However, in Indonesia, school children might not have the option to use a private vehicle to travel to school, therefore, their only options are to travel on foot, use a ride-hailing service, or their last option, public transportation. This is thought of as their last resort due to its unreliability and the cost.

It is clear that the public transportation system needs to be improved for students, and Jaramba has the solution for this.

Solution

At Jaramba, we aim to address the issue of unreliable and high-cost public transportation systems for school children in Bandung, Indonesia by providing free transportation vouchers and creating a mobile app that makes public transportation easier and more accessible. The app aims to do so through the following ways:

    • Making public transportation reachable for students by providing route information and trip planning
    • Increasing the convenience for students by allowing e-payments and paying upfront for all required transportation tickets
    • Increasing the reliability of public transportation for the students by providing live position tracking of transportation vehicles
