Market of Implementation

  • Hong Kong SAR China

Problem

Today, for every USD 1 spent on food, USD 2 is incurred in environmental, economic and societal costs:
  • Many urbanised cities import more than 90% of their daily vegetable supply. An overreliance on imported vegetables produced via industrial agricultural practices generates huge environmental costs through carbon emissions, large scale soil degradation and loss of biodiversity.
  • About 70% of the world’s population will live in urbanised areas by 2050. With large-scale urban development and loss of farmable land due to unsustainable agricultural activities, cities’ food production capacities are becoming more limited, creating an obstacle to the healthy development of local, organic agricultural industry.
  • And yet, food waste ranks high in the contributors to landfills. An average of 3,000 tonnes of food waste are generated in cities everyday, and the lack of agricultural capacities of cities limit the large scale adoption of composting, closing the loop on the life-cycle of food.

Solution

Pioneering a new food eco-system that brings together citydwellers, local organic farmers, corporations and communities around urban farming and empowering citydwellers to grow their own food, with the objectives of:
  • Minimising environmental impact of food production by growing and consuming our food locally.
  • Generating economic and social value around existing idling spaces transformed into urban farms.
  • Raise awareness for local agriculture, and provide increased income streams for local organic farmers.
  • Professionalising the urban farming industry by training a new generation of urban farmers through our vocational-focused Academy to provide employment, including for People of Differences (PoD).
  • Enhancing the lives of retirees and elderly through employment and horticultural therapy.
  • Adopting a circular system, diverting food waste from landfills to be composted for urban farms.
We achieve our objectives by providing:
  •  Urban Farm Design, Consultancy & Set Up
  • Urban Farm Management
  • Educational Workshops
