Gree’s Biogas solutions address three environmental and social issues, namely:
Gree designs and provides biogas-to-energy facilities that contribute to the sustainable production of food commodities. Hamparan, our first project, is one of the largest grid-connected biogas-to-energy project in Indonesia, providing enough electricity for 19 villages, reducing 65,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year whilst also treating more than 600,000 m3 of industrial wastewater annually. About 95% of the more than 1,000 Indonesian primary food processing facilities are yet to be equipped by adequate biogas technology. Scaling up biogas solutions would allow the food industry making the switch from a resource consumption rationale to a more sustainable model and practically address the major issues of climate change, energy for all and clean water.
Methane avoidance: to quantify the amount of GHG avoided from the anaerobic wastewater treatment facility, we will be using the UNFCCC methodology AMSIII-H. Such measurements will be certified by an auditor and registered under the Verra carbon registry. Clean energy: the green power produced will substitute the brown power currently distributed by the Indonesian electrical grid which mostly relies on coal. To quantify the amount of GHG avoided we are using the UNFCCC methodology AMSI-D.
