Mekong Quilts is a social enterprise with two goals: provide rewarding employment to poor village women; and generate profit to support social programs in the same villages. Mekong Quilts is owned by 2 Vietnamese NGOs aiming at community development in 3 provinces of Vietnam and 1 district in Cambodia. Employment and increasing income is important in these regions only dependent on agriculture.
The handicrafts are of high quality and target tourists and expatriates in the main cities, not competing on price with local handicrafts. MQ has 4 shops and also sells online. It is profitable and in 2018 could support 200 scholarships for poor children.
