Market of Implementation

  • India

Problem

About 70% of 100 million small & marginal farmers in the country do not have easy access to new knowledge and information about improved practices despite the government providing support for extension services across the country. This is because of two primary reasons:
  • Lack of awareness and know-how among the farmers about accessing government extension service institutions like KVKs, ATMA, Agriculture, Horticulture and Veterinary department etc.
  • Low outreach capacity and sub optimal delivery channels of government extension systems

Solution

MITRA aims to develop:
  • a “community owned” model managed by a network of farmers to help leverage agriculture extension services. The model addresses the last mile delivery gaps and supports every small and marginal farmer to access this facility at the village level.
  • a model for promoting rural enterpreneurs in agriculture and allied sector to improve access to quality input services and supplies for the small & marginal farmers at their village level.
