Since 2008 the Yale School of Management has offered a course linking teams of Yale students with social enterprises (SEs) based in India. Teams of Yale students partner with mission-driven social entrepreneurs to focus on a specific management challenge that the student/SE team works together to address during the semester. Over the past ten years, we have worked with leading and emerging Indian social enterprises engaged in economic development, sustainable energy, women’s empowerment, education, environmental conservation, and affordable housing.

The course will be offered again from late October 2018 through early March 2019.

Social enterprise partners will be selected based on the following criteria:

Between late October 2018 and early March 2019, each student team will conduct relevant research, engaging with their SE colleagues through email and weekly conference calls. In January 2019, the students will travel to India to spend 10 days working closely with their SE partners, at both the head office and field operations. Then all the participants will convene for a two-day seminar (to be held at the Indian Institute of Management – Bangalore) at which the SE representatives, students, faculty, and invited guests will hear and discuss the projects and explore issues of broader import to social enterprise in India. The student/SE teams will continue to work together through early March, culminating in development of a presentation and report addressing the management challenges they are exploring.

If you are interested in applying, please submit a completed application form, including all requested attachments, by August 27, 2018. If you have any questions about the program or the application, please write to Tony Sheldon (Executive Director of the Program on Social Enterprise at SOM): [email protected].

Decisions on SE partners will be made by mid-September 2018.
