About this event

Shiro Armstrong is an economist and Fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy. He is Director of the Australia-Japan Research Centre, Editor of the East Asia Forum, Director of the East Asian Bureau of Economic Research, Visiting Associate Professor at Keio University and Research Associate at the Center on Japanese Economy and Business at the Columbia Business School. Shiro has four degrees from ANU and is Canberra born and raised.

In conversation with Dr Jason Ketter, Head of Advancement ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, Shiro will discuss Australia’s future and the Asian economy. Australia’s economic future lies in Asia which is the centre of global economic activity and dynamism. But how will Australia manage a more assertive China, an escalating strategic rivalry between China and the United States and a United States that has stepped away from global leadership?

Following the discussion, you will have the opportunity to join breakout rooms for more intimate conversation with other alumni and friends of ANU. We welcome any questions you have for Professor Armstrong in advance via the registration form, or by emailing [email protected].

This webinar will be recorded. For those unable to attend, a copy of the recording can be supplied on request.
