There is a critical need to accelerate energy transition in Asia that is both sustainable and equitable, ensuring the benefits of a greener economy are equitably distributed and that support mechanisms are in place for those most affected. This paradigm shift requires moving beyond an infrastructure focus in green transitions, to a vision of transition that places people at its heart. It also requires a focus to mobilise capital towards addressing the ‘equity’ dimensions of transition, facilitated by a concerted effort among a diverse group of funders, including governmental agencies, the private sector, philanthropic entities, and international organisations.
This session explores the challenges and solutions for a people-centric energy transition in Asia-Pacific, through sharing the latest report outcome on “The People-Centric Energy Transition in the Asia Pacific: The Now, The How and the Future’. A panel will follow to discuss the innovation needed in climate finance and improve dialogue between philanthropic capital, private investors, Multilateral Development Banks and Development Finance Institutions to guide the flow of capital into systems change initiatives. Leading experts from various sectors will be invited to discuss their unique roles to play and potential partnerships of these funders to explore collaboration for a people-centric energy transition.
