Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) is the talk of the hour, but statistics – including those in the Finance Ministry’s Annual Economic Survey 2018 – continuously show that India lags on almost all major economic participation indices for women. There is an urgent need for application of the global theme of Women’s Economic Empowerment to the Indian context, for identification of key drivers for and barriers to change, so that effective action can be taken at all levels.
In order to take forward the discourse on WEE, International Innovation Corps (IIC) at the University of Chicago and the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) will be jointly hosting a Keynote Address by Dr. Junaid Ahmad, Country Director for the World Bank in India on Monday, 9th April at the University of Chicago Center in Delhi. The keynote address will also feature a panel discussion with Vidya Shah (CEO of EdelGive Foundation), Yamini Atmavilas (India Lead, Gender, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) and Renana Jhabvala (Chairperson, SEWA Bharat).
We hope that you will join us for what will be a great evening of discussion and debate with Dr. Ahmad and our other panelists.
