The Asia–Pacific Regional Conference on Population Ageing (APRC) is a biennial, high‑level policy forum that brings together governments, regional institutions, researchers, civil society, philanthropy, and the private sector to explore how societies across Asia and the Pacific are responding to rapid demographic change.
Convened by HelpAge International and UNFPA in partnership with host governments, the Conference is widely recognised as a platform for policy dialogue, peer learning and systems‑level exchange, connecting regional experience with global frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing.
Why China, and Why Now: A distinctive feature of the 2026 Conference is the opportunity to learn from China’s response to population ageing at unprecedented scale. With more than 216 million people aged 65 and over, projected to reach around 400 million by 2050, China is testing approaches to integrated service delivery, long‑term care, technology‑enabled solutions and age‑friendly policy design that offer important lessons for the wider region—and beyond.
