Agriculture often places significant pressure on natural resources and the climate. Environmental degradation that occurs as a result of these harmful agricultural practices would have an impact on yields of agricultural products in the long run. This not only threatens the livelihoods of farmers, but also the rest of the global population that is dependent on agriculture for food and textile materials. Building up the capacity for farmers to engage in sustainable practices is essential in ensuring that the agriculture sector will continue to be viable.

AVPN’s Climate Action Platform has partnered with the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) as the Asia Climate Mitigations Knowledge and Outreach Partner to host this upcoming workshop which aims to engage with investors and organisations working in the agriculture landscape to co-develop IRIS+ impact metrics. IRIS+, managed by the GIIN, is the generally accepted system for impact investors to measure, manage, and optimise their impact, as a free, publicly available resource.

The metrics discussed will cover themes that relate to improving sustainability in the agriculture sector. The three themes covered are:

  1. Improving Ecosystem Health
  2. Improving Climate Resilience
  3. Improving Food Systems

Through this 1.5-hour workshop, participants can expect to:

  1. Contribute to developing the framework for sustainable agriculture through an Asian lens by sharing investment approaches and feedback on drafts and metrics
  2. Gather valuable insights and set the standard for best practices in agriculture-specific impact management and measurement for ecosystem health, climate resilience, and food systems
  3. Engage with other funders and impact organisations to build a landscape that is committed to sustainable agriculture
