The buildings and construction sector accounted for 36 per cent of global final energy consumption and 37 per cent of energy related CO2 emissions in 2020. We must rethink the way we design, build and operate our buildings to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature rise well below 2°C, preferably 1.5°C, this century, combating climate change and ensuring the well-being of building occupants and users. We need collective action from real estate developers, enterprises, government, and society to develop ground-breaking solutions for waste reduction, energy and water efficiency improvements, and healthy and safe buildings.
