While CHWs are often the subjects of research, they are rarely involved across the research pathway as true collaborators and co-leads. This imbalance reinforces extractive research practices and often produces knowledge that fails to reflect frontline realities and reinforces CHW marginalisation. Involving CHWs across all stages of research, from design and data collection to analysis, interpretation, and dissemination, not only strengthens ethical integrity but also improves the quality, relevance, applicability, and impact of research. This webinar will explore practical models of CHW-led and co-designed research, unpack power dynamics in global health knowledge production, and highlight strategies to advance equity in research governance.

– Mary Naliaka Juma, a CHW from Matisi Dispensary in Bungoma, Kenya, will discuss her experience in research and the importance of CHW engagement.
– Dr. Karen Finnegan of Pivot Science will share her experiences in co-designing CHW programmes and her work on CHW engagement in research.
– Noelle Wiggins and Victoria Adewumi of CHW Center for Research and Evaluation (CHW-CRE) will discuss CHW research skills development, including their experiences in designing and implementing the courses.
– Jane Wamae of Lwala Community Alliance will share her experiences and discuss the needs and practicalities for the shift towards involving CHWs in research.
