AVPN is organising, in partnership with Ernst & Young, a private roundtable event for members, prospective members and those with a strong interest in venture philanthropy. Profiles of discussion leaders
Aditi Thorat, Chief Operating Officer, EdelGive Foundation
An MA in Philosophy Politics and Economics from Oxford University, Aditi Thorat has spent nine years in the development sector in India, working with organisations across the spectrum, from a grassroots NGO SPARC that focuses on creating access to basic amenities for slum dwellers across India, to assisting the political head of the state of Rajasthan as Officer on Special Duty on social initiatives. Prior to joining EdelGive Foundation as the first Chief Operating Organisation for the organisation in 2008, she worked as a consultant to the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) on formulating a Corporate Social Responsibility policy for the country. Aditi serves on the India Advisory Group for the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN).
Vishal Mehta, Co-founder and Managing Director, Lok Capital
Vishal is co-founder of Lok Capital Fund that started its investment business and operations in India in late 2004. Since then he has played the lead role in building Lok Capital as a premier venture capital fund focused on investing in base of the pyramid enterprises. Lok Capital is one of the first social VCs focused on India and backed by institutional investors and currently has more than $85m of assets under management. Though most of his pre-Lok Capital experience has been in the private sector, he has worked as consultant to social projects in India with Development Alternatives and in Kenya with Aravind Eye Care. Vishal holds an Engineering degree from Delhi University and an MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Simon Chadwick, Chief Executive Officer, AVPN
Simon Chadwick is CEO at AVPN. He was previously a partner at a global private equity fund placement group and founded his own private equity advisory firm. Before that he worked for the Schroder Group for 12 years in a range of marketing, business development and management roles. He worked on a pro bono basis at Impetus Trust in 2005 where he supported the fund raising and business development of this pioneering, London-based venture philanthropy fund. He has previously lived and worked in Asia for 8 years.
