Philanthropic capital and social investments are deployed in a variety of approaches and funding tools ranging from charitable grants, CSR initiatives, crowdfunding, innovative social finance tools such as social impact bonds, to impact investments. Intended philanthropic impact also vary, ranging from addressing immediate social needs to tackling root causes of intractable social and environmental challenges. Amidst the backdrop of a diverse socio-economic and political footprint in Asia and diminishing government resources relative to the social and environmental challenges, the role of and need for social investments cannot be more pressing today.
In this landscape, philanthropy educational platforms and catalytic networks such as Asia Value Advisors (AVA) and the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) play key roles in educating, convening, and intermediating between philanthropic funders and philanthropic “doers” such as social purpose organizations (SPOs).
The Harvard Business School Club of the Philippines and Asia Value Advisors are pleased to co-organize this luncheon roundtable to welcome AVPN’s leadership team in Manila. The session will provide a contextual overview of the recent global developments in venture philanthropy and social investments as well as explore its linkages with and opportunities for the Philippine social investment space in an interactive format.
Panelists: Philo Alto, Founder and CEO, Asia Value Advisors Douglas Miller, Chairman, AVPN Naina Batra, CEO, AVPN Andrew Muirhead, Vice Chairman, AVPN
