Impact investing has emerged as an approach to investing that intentionally seeks to address the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges through the power of capital markets. Southeast Asia’s impact investing ecosystem has developed significantly over the last decade. Since 2007, Private Impact Investors have deployed around USD 904 million and Development Finance Institutions have deployed around USD 11.3 billion.
Despite overall regional growth, Southeast Asia’s impact investing market remains highly fragmented. Countries in the region are at vastly different stages of economic development and have entrepreneurial ecosystems with varying maturity levels facing context-specific challenges.
As an initiative to encourage the growth of impact investing with a gender lens in South East Asia, Investing in Women in partnership with the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) commissioned a study of the current state of play and to draw the attention of investors and potential investors to its findings and the opportunities which exist for impact investing.
This event is a part of a series of events which AVPN is co-organising along with Investing in Women and GIIN to discuss the Future Directions for Impact Investing in Southeast Asia. This event will feature:
- Overview of the global and regional impact investing market, presented by the GIIN
- Reflections from leading investors on opportunities for impact investing in the region
- A networking reception with peers from Vietnam’s impact investing and wider financial communities.
