Did you know that children who read are likely to have higher cognitive functioning, better communication skills, improved academic performance, the capacity to self-learn, a greater confidence and a broader perspective and world view. And all it starts with an introduction to the magical world of books through Let’s READ.
Let’s READ is part of United Way Mumbai’s ongoing efforts to foster the love of reading amongst children from marginalized communities. Children who participate in this programme have begun exploring faraway countries, learning about Indian art, delighting in comic tales and dreaming about the day they will write their own books.
1200+ children will be introduced to the wonder of books through day long events at the Let’s READ Carnival on 3rdOctober & 10thOctober 2019. These children will receive book sets and enjoy book reading – story telling sessions, assisted reading and refreshments. Each of their schools will also be gifted a mini library to take back with them. While they explore the world of books, their teachers will be trained on making books come alive for children.
United Way Mumbai welcomes contributions and volunteering support to make this Carnival possible. Employee volunteers can help manage the huge numbers, guide the children and make this a meaningful experience for them.
The Carnival will be held at St. Stanislaus High School, Bandra West, Mumbai. Volunteering slots are currently open in the following batches –
- First batch on 3rdOctober 2019 (9 am – 12.30 pm),
- First batch on 10thOctober 2019 (9 am – 12.30 pm) and
