Philo Alto (李 家 仁) is an ex-investment banker (Goldman Sachs and Citigroup) who is passionate about doing good while doing well. He is the founder and CEO of Asia Value Advisors (AVA), a leading philanthropy advisory firm that seeks to inform and engage individuals and organizations to create sustainable impacts.
He previously co-authored two publications: “Mind the Gap: Lessons and Findings from EngageHK” and “Adopting the London Principles: Policy Considerations to Grow Impact Investing in Hong Kong”. He also convened a Foundation Philanthropy Roundtable in Hong Kong bringing together foundation leaders to explore what’s next in creating sustainable value.
Recently, his firm successfully advised the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust on its program curation for its inaugural Philanthropy for Better Cities forum in September 2016. Over 1,300 delegates and 60 speakers participated in this forum.
Philo received his MBA and MPA at Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School. He is a director of the Harvard Club of Hong Kong, director of the Harvard Club of Hong Kong Education Fund, and an officer of the HBS Association of Hong Kong.

Philo Alto will survey the state of the philanthropic landscape in Hong Kong, its players, challenges and opportunities going forward. The landscape is defined by philanthropic individuals and institutions deploying their time, networks, expertise, and financial resources to create intended social and environmental impacts. Tools include traditional philanthropy, venture philanthropy, and impact investing. Mr. Alto will also share observations from his recent program curation work for the HK Jockey Club Charities Trust on their Philanthropy for Better Cities forum and his collaboration with the Rockefeller Foundation on impact investing landscape in East and Southeast Asia.
