The next generation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), due early next year, presents a crucial opportunity for countries to drive climate action for years to come. Limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees C requires transforming nearly every sector globally. That’s why in addition to setting ambitious emission reduction targets for 2030 and 2035, countries should include sector-specific goals to help guide domestic policymaking across the whole of government and jumpstart a process with ministries to integrate targets into strategic planning.
This official side event at COP29 — co-hosted by World Resources Institute, Chile, the United Kingdom, We Mean Business Coalition, and the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) — will bring together leading government and business voices to reflect on the benefits of setting sector-specific targets in NDCs, such as for energy, land-use and agriculture.
Panelists will reflect on how targets for key sectors can speed up the transition away from fossil fuels, create economic growth, leverage the power of cities and the private sector and importantly help unlock much-needed investment to bolster resilience and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
Register via Eventbrite for online or in-person attendance.
Please note that this is an official COP29 side event. Attendance online requires you to register online as a virtual COP29 participant. Once registered, livestreaming will be available on the COP29 digital platform accessible to virtual conference participants.
