About this event

Philanthropy has a very long tradition in India. Not only is philanthropy by businesses, foundations, and wealthy individuals expanding in parallel to the growing economy and rising wealth, but newer forms of social investment are also springing up. With the decline in foreign contributions due to the FCRA and existing development challenges, strengthening the domestic philanthropic ecosystem has become more urgent.

In partnership with the European Foundation Centre, AVPN is launching the Philanthropic Leadership Platform (PLP): India-Europe. 20 mid-level philanthropy professionals from India and Europe will gather to enhance their leadership skills by sharing their experience, creativity and concerns. It will become a space for peer-to-peer professional dialogue as well as a source of knowledge shared by external experts on the issues in focus.

Indian participants can benefit from being a part of a supportive international community, while European participants can take inspiration from hearing about adaptive, innovative, agile, accelerated approaches emerging in India.

Key Themes

This edition of the PLP: India-Europe will be built around 3 themes:

  • Gender Equality: Explore the potential of impact investing in addressing gender equity, by applying a gender equity lens to their entire strategy
  • Climate Action: Learn how to develop investment products that align to or contribute to SDG#13; identify challenges and opportunities around innovative financial solutions that can drive sustainable climate finance
  • Collaboration: Adopt cross-sector approaches to create systemic and sustainable change, focusing on success factors for effective collaboration

How is the programme structured?

The program will run from 6 September 2021 to 16 November 2021. The online live sessions will take place every 2 weeks over a period of 2 months, requiring two hours of commitment. There will be recommended reading, pair and teamwork, and forum discussions to support our participants’ learning journeys.

At the end of the PLP, participants will think about how they can apply their learnings in their day-to-day work.

Applicants should be fully committed to actively participating and engaging in the programme and respecting the confidentiality of other participants. The applicant’s organisation should fully support the applicant’s total participation for the duration of the programme.

Who is eligible?

This programme is open to philanthropic practitioners with five years’ experience in philanthropy or impact investing, and coming from the following types of organisations:

  • Philanthropy infrastructure organisations
  • Venture philanthropy funds
  • Social investors
  • Grant-making and operational foundations, impact investing funds

AVPN and EFC members will be given priority in the selection of participants. As the programme is conducted in English, the ability to work in English is essential.
