About this event

Philanthropy in China has grown exponentially in the past decade, bringing with it a rush of international interest in and engagement with what for many may be uncharted territory. New regulations put in place by the Chinese government, and changing UN and multilateral arrangements have moved funding and decision-making into the hands of local actors, who are investing significant parts of their growing net worth back into civil society.

This event offers insights into emerging trends not only in China, but the Asian philanthropy sector as a whole. Our panelists will offer guidance to those interested in studying philanthropy in Asia, or looking to make charitable investments in the region.

Kim Meredith draws from Stanford PACS’ programming, research and publications in China and East Asia to provide an overview of philanthropy and social innovation in the continent. Naina Subberwal Batra draws from AVPN’s Continuum of Capital Report to isolate trends in social investment, resources, investor behavior, and funding flows as they relate to foundations, impact funds, corporations, and intermediaries. Birger Stamperdahl of Give2Asia provides insights based on its extensive history managing charitable investments to Asia and its current focus on work in China through its registered Beijing office.
