Today we have 1 billion plus youth in the world, the most in human history. They will become the most influential Change Generation, ever.
As parents, educators, government and wider society it is our collective responsibility to prepare and empower this generation to thrive in a world of accelerated change and technological advancement. Yet, the inescapable truth is that our current mind-sets and institutionalised systems are outdated to adequately do so.
ChangeGeneration is happening now because we recognise the urgent need to act.
Social iCon 2016 – ChangeGeneration, a partnership between the Lien Centre for Social Innovation at the Singapore Management University and Ashoka Singapore, will bring fourteen Ashoka Fellows – some of the most decorated Youth Empowerment social innovators in the world – to Singapore. Together, we will share, discuss and learn how to create a seismic shift in thought and action to ensure we are preparing the next generation for constant change, for complex problem-solving, creativity, moral imagination and empathy. In short, to ensure that this generation is not only the most influential yet, but the most influential Change Generation for a better future.
The day begins with a call to awareness by exceptional young leaders, followed by high level panel discussions with leaders from all sectors focusing on distilling the criteria for a successful paradigm shift and exploring why self-directedness matters, why community linkages matter, and particularly why starting young matters. In the afternoon, breakout sessions, strategic conversations and workshops bring the right mix of players into the fold to set out action steps and share the necessary tools.
