AVPN’s Executive Vice Chair, Andrew Muirhead, will be speaking on a panel at the United Nations-Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)’s special session on “Innovation and partnerships for the future we want: the role of private sector”.

Background of the special session:

“Innovation and partnerships for the future we want: the role of private sector” is part of the Regional Consultation on Accountability for the Post-2015 Development Agenda. This special session is being held as part of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific 70th Commission session. It brings senior leaders of philanthropic organizations and the business community together to share innovative programmes and strategies, and to reflect on their greater engagement and role across the development landscape and to develop a better understanding on the way forward to more effective and strategic engagement.

Key Objectives:

  • Increase awareness on the role of philanthropic organizations, and the private sector in support of the post-2015 development agenda, including means of implementation;
  • Enhance knowledge on innovative delivery and partnerships, including how the comparative advantage of philanthropic organizations and the private sector are being used to achieve development objectives;
  • Strengthen partnerships for the realization of the post-2015 development agenda, including public-private partnerships, by addressing key issues and opportunities for philanthropic and private sector engagement;
  • Identify the role that Regional Commissions such as ESCAP can play in supporting more effective, inclusive and strategic philanthropic and private sector engagement in the post-2015 development agenda.
