This virtual event will highlight the opportunities and challenges of investing in plastics circularity in Southeast Asia, long viewed as a hotspot for plastic pollution owing to its rapid urbanization, waste importation, and under-resourced infrastructure for waste management and recycling.
This challenge is increasingly being addressed by several countries in the region that have implemented national action plans and circular economy roadmaps. Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam have made significant progress by piloting and enabling legislation such as EPR schemes, plastic bag taxes, and plastic product restrictions. The private sector, including multinational corporations, private investors, and local businesses, is responding.
